Mount Yazlica

If you’re an adventurous spirit and love to explore new heights, Mount Yazlica should be on your bucket list. Yazlıca Mountains offer some of the most spectacular views for mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Yazlıca Mountains, also known as Herekol Mountains, are situated between Siirt and Şırnak provinces in eastern Turkey. The range spans over 15 km in width and 35 km in length, with an elevation of up to 2962 meters. It is formed by an anticline structure, with Eocene limestones on top and Upper Cretaceous-Paleocene units at the bottom.

Yazlıca Mountains: A Hidden Gem for Mountaineers

The northern slopes of Yazlıca Mountains are intersected by faults that run parallel to the fold axis. These faults have created a unique geological feature known as Yazlıca Düdeni (sinkhole). The sinkhole is located in the middle of the mountain’s northern slope and is fed by the waters of Serkehniro Stream.

Serkehniro is a stream that collects water from the northeastern part of the mountain and disappears into a large cave after flowing for about 5 km on the surface. The stream flows through the cave and re-emerges as a resurgence spring in the Çayırlı area about 2.5-3 km away. The entrance to the cave is 5-6 meters wide and 5 meters high, with large empty spaces inside. The presence of these empty spaces indicates that the stream has shifted its course over time.

The unique geological features of Yazlıca Mountains offer a challenging terrain for mountaineers. The rugged and steep slopes of the mountain provide an ideal location for those who love to climb and trek. The summit of Yazlıca Mountains is a perfect destination for mountaineers, with an elevation of 2962 meters. Climbing to the summit requires a good level of physical fitness, as well as technical skills and equipment. The route to the summit passes through rocky terrains and steep slopes, with some sections requiring the use of ropes and harnesses.

The best time for mountaineering in Mount Yazlica is during the summer months, from June to September. During this time, the weather is relatively stable, and the snow cover on the mountain is minimal. However, it is important to note that the weather in the mountains can be unpredictable, and climbers should always be prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions.

In addition to mountaineering, Yazlıca Mountains offer a range of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and nature photography. The stunning landscape and unique geological formations of the mountain make it an ideal destination for nature lovers.
