Turkey’s Female Mountain Guide İsmet İnan Lost Her Life in an Avalanche

Remembering İsmet İnan: A Passionate Mountaineer

İsmet İnan, a valued female mountain and ski touring guide in Turkey, tragically lost her life as a result of an avalanche in the Körtekli region of the Aladaglar Mountains in the Toros Range.

The Avalanche Incident in Aladaglar Mountains

İsmet İnan, who previously held the title of the first Turkish woman to climb Mount Manaslu, over 8,000 meters, had been working as a mountain and ski touring guide for many years. Unfortunately, during a ski touring expedition with German skiers on March 10, 2024, in the Aladaglar Mountains of the Toros Range, she was caught in an avalanche, taking her away from us.

Rescue Efforts and Governor’s Statement

İsmet İnan was skiing with a group of German tourists in Aladaglar, Çamardı district of Niğde, when a snow mass fell on her. Following the notification from the German climbers, search and rescue teams, including AFAD, UMKE, and Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK), were dispatched to the region. After arriving at the scene, Governor Cahit Çelik informed the media that İnan and the German tourist group were skiing in Emli Valley when the accident occurred.

Condolences our deepest sorrow for Ismet Inan’s tragic death. Dicle Tezelli, Steve Danishek sending their love to Ismet’s family from Seattle, WA USA. We both have climbed Emler Peak 4 years ago, when it was snow free. We are in late 70’s and with the motivation we get from experts like Ismet Inan, we continue searching for high (zirve) peaks. Rest in peace Ismet Inan. My book on Amazon is titled: EMLER PEAK .

      Best regards

Hi. I’m from Ireland who walked and hiked with Ismet since 2014 and we had lots of trips with more irish people also with Ismet as our friend and guide.
She was one beautiful person who loved the mountains and everything to do with nature. We travelled with her to Georgia and Armenia only a year ago.
We will miss her but our memories of her will be with us forever.
I would like to send my deepest sympathies to her Mom who she often spoke to me about ,and her family , closest relatives and friends.
She is now resting in the mountains that she lived so much and nay her gentle spirit Rest in Peace
